Cape Town

The beginning of the year was quite tough for everybody, and to tell you the truth, I was afraid that it wouldn't get any better even though it was holiday time.  But I guess that deep down inside I was really looking forward to the trip.  And I didn't regret a single second of it.

I ended up going to Cape Town, RSA.  Not that I've never been there before, I have many times in fact, but it was as if I had a feeling that this trip was going to be very special.  And I was right.  Every time I come to CT, I can't help noticing how it actually changes people and how different the look in their eyes becomes.  Maybe it's because of the weather and the tremendous amount of sunshine, I don't know.  But one thing I know for certain.  People become more laid-back, more open to the world.  They actually start to smile for no apparent reason!!

So, since it's holies, there are a few musts in this city:
1.  The Table Mountain
This huge mountain that overlooks the whole of CT is 1.086 m above sea level, so you can imagine what the view is like from up there...AMAZING!! I know that it seems high and like a long way to climb, but there is a belief that if you climb to the top and make a wish, it will most certainly come true.  And trust me, it does ;) Oh, and there is a cableway for the lazy ones of you out there.

2.  The Cape of Good Hope and Cape Cross
Remember how we were told way back at school that the sailors feared the most southern point of the African continent as very few ships managed to sail around it, and named it Cape of Good Hope for good luck?  It is also the place where the cold waters of the Atlantic meet the warm Indian ocean and produce some sort of a clash before finally mixing together.  Oh, and don't forget to go and have a look at the penguin colony!!

3.  Robben Island
A leper colony at first, then a prison and now a museum, Robben Island attracts hundreds of tourists every day.  It is the place where all political prisoners including Nelson Mandela served their sentence.  I know it may not sound too exciting, but I think that the least  you can do, when visiting a foreign country, is pay some kind of tribute to its history.  And no matter what people say, I still think that Robben Island is a true symbol of white power in Africa.

4.  V&A Waterfront
We have finally got to my most favourite place in CT.  I can say for sure that once you get there, it will grasp your imagination and steal your mind.  A former port, Waterfront has become a major tourist attraction in CT.  No matter what you are looking for, you will find it there.  Whether it's a night out, or just a walk with your beloved one, this is the place to go (and believe me, it is perfectly perfect for the latter).  Night clubs, restaurants, shops, boat rides, yachts and even a ferris wheel - you name it, they've got it.

There are many more amazing places to go to when in Cape Town, but I feel like I should wrap this up and leave the rest for you to explore.  I did my best to put all my emotions into words, but I still feel like I've said almost nothing.  So in conclusion I just want to answer the most frequently asked question: "Why are you so obsessed with Cape Town?" First of all, I'm not obsessed.  And second, you know how everybody has a safe heaven?  The one place where you forget all your worries and troubles and just try to enjoy every moment of the day... Where time stops and you feel safe...  Well, I have found mine. So many memories and faces...that I can't even think of throwing away. And I don't care what people say, Cape Town will always have a special place in my heart.

I hope that I haven't bored you to death and that I was able to show you why I care about this place so much.  After all, you should first see things for yourself before judging.
